|
Chris Frangos has played piano since the age of four. Chris began his formal music
instruction with Chris Stowens, an understudy of Jaki Byard. Stowens was also the
cofounder of the famed avant- garde ensemble, Composers in Red Sneakers, which
Frangos had the pleasure to perform with during the early 1990's, and who's classical
composition Gateway was favorably reviewed by Boston Globe's music critic Richard
Dyer. "I also feel extremely fortunate to have studied with improvisational instructors Dr.
Wilson, Ran Blake and Charlie Banacos." Chris has written and recorded over the years
numerous classical jazz compositions. After the release of his debut album, A Fine
Journey, Chris recieved kudos for his work from Boston's famed jazz aficionado Tony
Cinamo and was an invited featured guest on his WBUR jazz program. Chris's musical
background is not limited to jazz. He was a recording artist for Megaforce/ Atlantic
records in New York between 1988 and 1993 and wrote, recorded, and performed
original commercial and progressive rock and pop music. "I enjoyed writing commercial
music at the time but unfortunately you find yourself having to sometimes compromise
the art of the music in order to satisfy the financial desires of the record company. My
desire and goal as a musician has always been to compose and perform music that is
artistically challenging and honest."
Chris has been a musical mainstay throughout the Boston area and has enjoyed playing
for numerous private functions (weddings, anniversaries, and all special occasions). His
repetoire includes songs written by some of America's greatest classical romantic
composers such as Rogers and Hammerstein, Duke Ellington, Gershwin and Jerome
Kern. Classic modern jazz selections are also a major part of Chris's repertoire including
songs written by Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, and Dave Brubeck. Chris also
plays a wide range of classic pop and rock selections written by artists such as Billy Joel,
Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Because of Chris's versatile musical background, he is
always willing and able to create for you a musical list that is appropriate for your
special occasion. Chris has a Masters Of Education Degree from Gordon College and is
also a graduate of Ithaca College. Chris resides North of Boston, Ma with his wife and
